Professor Andrew Carr graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, in 1984 and became a member of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia in 1993. He completed his doctoral thesis on HIV-related drug hypersensitivity in 1994. He has been at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney since 1989, where he is a clinical immunologist and immunopathologist, Director of the Immunology and HIV Unit and Head of the Clinical Research Program, Centre for Applied Medical Research. He was appointed Professor of Medicine, UNSW in 2006. He serves on the editorial board of The Lancet, and has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed publications. In 2008, he was cited by Science as one of the top 10 HIV researchers worldwide.
His main research interest is the complications of HIV therapy.
