Dr William Sewell

Associate Professor William Sewell graduated in Medicine from Sydney University in 1978, completed a PhD at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and carried out post-doctoral research in the UK. After returning to Australia to an appointment with the University of NSW, he completed his pathology training in 1993 at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. He has a strong research track record in cellular and molecular immunology, with a particular interest in the mechanisms of allergic inflammation.

Flow cytometry is a special focus of his work as an immunopathologist in SydPath, especially in the field of leukaemia and lymphoma. His expertise in flow cytometry has been recognized by appointment as an Expert Member of the Editorial Boards of two Tumour Classification volumes of the WHO. His commitment to flow cytometry has also been recognized by a Career Recognition Award from the Australasian Cytometry Society for Service and Contributions to Flow Cytometry.

He has a keen interest in education with extensive experience in teaching medical students at the University of NSW. He is also committed to post-graduate education, and has served as Chief Examiner in Immunopathology for the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
